The Pharmacist

Ms. YOW CHIAN CHIAN
B.Pharm (Hons), Otago New Zealand

Ms. Yow Chian Chian is a licensed pharmacist originally from Batu Pahat, Johor. Having spent 4 years in Dunedin, New Zealand and obtaining her degree in Pharmacy at University of Otago, she returned to Malaysia to work as a retail pharmacist in Batu Pahat for 4 years. She then moved to KL to try her hands at being a pharmacist in a pharmaceutical corporation in Shah Alam for another 2 years, and finally settled back to being a retail pharmacist for the past 5 years. Some of you may have seen her at a pharmacy in Kota Damansara and Damansara Uptown. Her passion for helping people has lead her to open up her own pharmacy.

Change and Progress
"My mum takes the same medication for years and years. Once a doctor prescribes it to her and tells her to take it for life, she continues with it for 5 years, 10 years, and even longer. I realised a long time ago that our body changes as we age. What was necessary back then may no longer be needed. As time goes by, technology changes and produces newer medication. Why should everyone be taking the same medication and dosage from 15 years ago? Change is inevitable, but it is more important for us to progress with it. If you are on high blood pressure medication, come and check your blood pressure regularly, so that you will know that your dosage is correct. If you are taking cholesterol medication, do a blood test at least once a year to make sure it's still working for you. If your supplement brand was from 10 years ago, find out if there are better combination of supplements to take. It's time to change, and make better progress in our health."

"How Now Ms. Yow?"
Ms. Yow has now become quite a problem solver. Friends and relatives from all walks of life are used to asking her for advice. They have jokingly come up with a tagline for her, "How now, Ms. Yow". She keeps up-to-date with the latest medications around, and convinces them to make sure their health status is updated too. Blood tests should be done regularly, blood pressure should be monitored. Once she has all the correct facts, she can recommend a good combination of medication and follow-up to see whether it is working well for you. As most of you are very loyal customers of Maxheal from long ago, do come up to her and say Hi. She would love to hear from you and get to know everyone better.
